The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is the agency in charge of evaluating, collecting, ""and paying for Ghana's tax revenue. The Authority's main goal is to ensure that all applicable laws are followed to ensure a stable revenue stream for the government as well as a regulated and secure movement of goods through the county's boundaries.
Due to it's mandate, the Debt Management Compliance and Recovery Unit of the company has closed down some fuel retailing outlets over levies and taxes default between 2019 and 2021. The oil marketing companies have been given ten days to pay off their debts or lose thier properties to the country.
The task force was seen in town today closing down the fuel marketing stations owing them. Amongst them are the "Grid Petroleum" who according to them owes GH¢ 1,253,969.5, with "Santol Ltd" owing GH¢ 57,398.141.90, "Sawiz Petroleum" also owes GH¢ 5, 122,387.20 and "Petral Energy" owing GH¢ 20, 736, 960.30.
Mr. Nataniel Nii Okai Tetteh, the Chief Revenue Officer in charge of recovery at the debt management compliance unit of the GRA said letters were served the companies giving them several opportunities which they failed to take advantage of.
He added that, the warrant gives them the permission to attack any oil company owing the GRA. "We will continue in Accra. We will be following you wherever you are. It is the levies and taxes the GRA wants so please rush to the authority and make satisfactory arrangement to pay everything" he said.
He however said the ten days grace period starts from today so after the ten days, the assets shall be auctioned until they recover the money.
The provisions for the charge over assets are spelt out in the Section 52-55 of the revenue administration Act 2015 Act 115 according to the task force.
