Foodstuffs are expensive here - Sekondi residents

Residents of Sekondi have bemoaned the high prices of food at the administrative capital of the Western Region. They have accused traders of deliberately increasing their goods after buying them at relatively cheap prices in the surrounding villages.

On a market day on Tuesday in Sekondi, some buyers told our reporter Adesi Kumi that even their favorite konkonte is expensive and two cedis is not enough for them.

It is only in Sekondi here that you cant enjoy kokonte with ground nut soup, Kwasi Yeboah resident at Ekuase a suburb in Sekondi said.

They accused traders of not thinking about customers but have have resolved to make profit at all cost .

They go to the villages and buy foodstuffs at a very cheap prices but when they come they sell it to you at an unreasonable price even look at this tomatoes look at the sizes its two cedis and the fish, forget it if your money is only five cedis, because you cant buy it , some customers said .

They said the sea in just a meter away from Sekondi where sometimes fishermen come themselves to the market and sell it to the women without any transportation cost but fish on the market are very expensive.

They should do something about the prices ,I can say that , the whole Ghana here is where foodstuffs are very expensive, I came to the market with 100 cedis and I have bought fish, cassava and plantain only, look my money is almost finished Olivia Segua told our reporter.

So will the traders upheld the calls of their customers or will continue to maximize profit at their expense ?Only time will tell.
