May this New Year clear the way and lead us nearer to building the "Ghana We Want"—Former President

According to former president John "may this new year open the pathway and bring us to the cusp of constructing the 'Ghana We Want'—a Ghana of opportunity for everyone and one in which our individual and collective dreams are accomplished.

In his message for the new year, he urged Ghanaians to never lose hope.

Despite the economic setback the nation had in the previous year, former President stated that Ghanaians "cannot give up on our dear homeland Ghana" in the face of impending austerity measures and sacrifices 2023 will entail.

Due to careless borrowing binges during the past few years, our beloved country of Ghana missed payments on its debt.

Under this Fourth Republic, Ghanaians have had to deal with challenges that have never been experienced before. And both our democracy and the endurance of our people were put to the very edge.

We greet the year 2023 knowing that a road of sacrifice and austerity has only just begun.

But we must not abandon HOPE! We cannot abandon Ghana, our beloved motherland.

Let us keep in mind the sobering words of the hymn writer Johnson Outman Jr. when he exhorts us to "Count Our Blessings and Name Them One by One" as we bravely face the future.

By the mercy of the Almighty, we are fortunate to have survived as a country and to be alive to witness the start of a new year. The potential in the new year to be better versions of ourselves and work even harder towards rescuing our beautiful nation from the preventable abyss into which she has been plunged exists once we have the gift of life, which is the most important of all.

May this new year clear the way and push us closer to creating the "Ghana We Want"—a Ghana where everyone has access to opportunities and where our personal and societal goals are realized.
