Earlier today, Finance Minister appeared before Parliament to present the annual budget for the 2022 fiscal year. Prior to the presentation, many calls and expectations had been made by some Ghanaians, some demanding a scrappage of taxes and reduction in fuel prices. Among many other things, Ken Ofori-Atta announced plans taken by the government to raise revenue for the next year.
One notable policy in the budget that caused massive stir was the introduction of an E-levy to tax electronic transactions including MoMo and bank transfers. The Minority Caucus led by Honourable Haruna Iddrisu have bemoaned the 1.7% tax on transfers.
Outspoken investigative Journalist and host of the Hot Seat Show, Kwaku Annan has finally reacted to the 2022 fiscal year budget that was presented by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta today. He has expressed joy and excitement over the content of the budget and how it has come to rescue and reduce the burden on the average Ghanaian citizen.
According to Kwaku Annan, the budget that was presented today is a clear indication of the government's good plans for the people of Ghana. He boldly explained that the 6th budget read by the Finance Minister has been rated as the best ever since the inception of the 4th Republic. He indicated that he is optimistic in the content underscored in the budget to relieve Ghanaians.
Speaking on his televised Program, Kwaku Annan registered his resentment over the criticisms from the Minority Caucus. He explained that the government needs to be commended for scrapping certain taxes including road tolls and creating an environment for entrepreneurship and job creation. Kwaku Annan called on the Minority to drop their debate on the budget.
He said, "Whatever Ken Ofori-Atta said today is the best ever for Ghanaians. I have seen the Minority Caucus making complains but one thing is that they are unnecessary. Some taxes have been removed and you're still complaining. What all are you complaining about?"
