Why Ghanaians Feel Prez Akufo-Addo Does Not Deserve Forbes African of The Year Award [Reactions]

President Akufo-Addo was unveiled as the African of the Year by Forbes Magazine on Friday, 3 December, 2021. The Forbes African of the Year award was instituted by Forbes Magazine to honour Africans who made significant contributions not only to their country but Africa as a whole.

The 2018 maiden edition of the award was won by the President of Rwanda, Mr Paul Kagame. In 2019, the President of African Development Bank Group, Mr Akinwumi A. Adensima received the honour. The Director General of World Trade Organization, Madam Okonjo Iweala emerged as the first female from the African continent to be decorated with the prestigious award in the third year.

Having played a key role in the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Center and the promotion of foreign direct investment in Ghana as the country aims towards the realization of Ghana beyond aid, President Akufo-Addo emerged as the winner of this year's Forbes African of the Year Award.

However, a large number of Ghanaians on social media feels Mr Akufo-Addo does not deserve to be named the African of the Year by Forbes Magazine.

Majority of those who shared this opinion identified a number of reasons why they are not satisfied with the recognition.

As captured in the screenshots below, they contend Mr Akufo-Addo has not done much to ameliorate hardship and poverty in the country [Ghana]. Others pointed out the inability of the goverment led by President Akufo-Addo to defeat corruption which hitherto, is the greatest bane of Ghana's development.

Yet there were others like Eric Opoku who feel his goverment has not been fair in the distribution of the national cake; rather, party faithfuls have been given priority over the generality of the Ghanaian citizenry.

Below are few of the reactions gathered from social media as TV3 shared the news of the award.
