The outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic all over the world caused do much disruption especially in businesses and people's personal lives. It was as if everything was put on hold, you know when you press 'pause' on a remote control? That was exactly how the world stood still.
The first two cases of COVID-19 in Ghana was revealed on March 12 2020 through the ministry of health. The president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced via presidential address the ban of all public gathering, schools, churches, funerals, businesses and land borders were closed. All these measures were to curb and contain the spread of the virus.
The lockdown affected businesses in so many ways. A lot of families spent so much to stock their houses not knowing when the ban will be lifted. This unplanned expenses obviously had lots of consequences, plus other expenses incurred while at home for weeks. Remember, no income was coming in, but the food stocked in the house kept going down. So many families buy for items on the streets in order not to starve.
When the partial lockdown got lifted eventually, many businesses felt it so bad because of the impact of the spending without earning. I know lots of people that closed down, some went into debt and many are still struggling till date.
During the period of the pandemic up to this moment, one of the outstanding technology that helped ease the burden is virtual or video call. Even though this has been around before the pandemic, but then, people embraced the technology to hold business meetings, keep in touch with family, friends and loved ones during the pandemic. Some of these virtual applications are Zoom, Google Meet, WhatsApp Video Call, Skype and many more.
Africans are adopting the virtual means of communication so well obviously because African and World leaders are using same means to hold conferences, meetings, inaugurations and many other ceremonies.
The Covid-19 pandemic also made different learning applications very useful. Parents downloaded lots of the learning applications to help their children learn during the period schools were closed.
Remember, the virus is still out there, keep masking up. Maintain safe distance from people. Wash your hands regularly, especially when you are out and about. Use hand sanitizer and always keep safe out there.
