Kroboland Versus ECG: Good News Loading

The misunderstanding between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the Kroboland (Yilo and Manya Krobo Districts), is still on; with no signs of upcoming or possible agreements.

The misunderstanding first led to a rampage by the Krobo Youth, May 2017; and a heavy demonstration against the ECG, on November 22, 2021.

These misunderstandings led to a total power cut in the entire Kroboland, in the Eastern Region of Ghana. After some negotiations, power was later restored to the land.

The misunderstanding rose again On Monday December 6, 2021; leading to another total power cut by the Electricity Company of Ghana (EGC), halting businesses; and forcing people to travel to the nearby districts like Asuogyaman, North Tongu, Shai and others, to charge their mobile phones and other electronics.

Again for about two weeks now, the entire Krobo area have been in another total darkness due to a new clash between the ECG, and the Krobo Youth.

The latest good news, and sign of relieve came, when the Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, in the Eastern Region, Mr. Eric Tetteh revealed that, he will petition the management and board of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), on Monday, August 8, over the current impasse between ECG and his community.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Tetteh explained that;“For me as an MCE, I don’t want this situation to continue where the ECG is saying that they are not safe and that is why my municipality is in darkness. I want the whole world to know that my municipality, has not contributed to any safety problems for them”.

Meanwhile, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has said, that power will only be restored to the Krobo lands after the security challenges faced by its staff are addressed.
