"I Agree With Your IMF Move, But Drop Ken Ofori-Atta Now" - JM Tells Akufo-Addo

Former President, John Dramani Mahama in a post on Facebook later this morning, applauds President Nana Akufo-Addo's decision to go for a bailout from the IMF in order to rescue the dying Ghanaian economy. He said that this decision should mark an important step towards addressing the dire economic situation which has thrown Ghanaians into intense hardships and sufferings.

"I welcome President Akufo-Addo’s decision to formally engage the IMF with the view to entering into a programme under the Fund. Though belated, it should mark an important step towards addressing the dire economic situation, which has left Ghanaians wallowing under intense suffering and hardships," Mr Mr Mahama said.

Mahama went ahead cautioned the President to set a committee of competent persons who are capable of negotiating with the IMF for a better economy. He went ahead and said that the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta cannit be part of the committee because it was under his leadership that the economy was plunged into disaster. He said that he had therefore lost credibility and trust in the eyes of Ghanaians. He suggests that President Akufo-Addo takes a bold step to replace him with a more competent person who is willing and able to turn the economy around asap.

"Beyond the announcement of engagement with the IMF, a comprehensive home-grown programme should be fashioned out and presented to the Fund for support. It is imperative that a team of skilled and competent negotiators is put together to obtain the best set of measures with the Fund.

"The Finance Minister who has supervised the disastrous collapse of the economy cannot and should not be part of the team of negotiators. He has lost credibility and the trust and confidence of stakeholders in our economy.

President Akufo-Addo must take a bold decision to replace his finance minister immediately with a more assured and competent person who is willing and able to work tirelessly to turn our almost hopeless situation around," he said.
