NAGRAT to go on strike over COLA

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has issued a strong warning to that government on the payment of Cost of Living Allowance to all it members across the country.

This demand of the Association is as a results of the hardship of the economy now a days.

According to the executives of the Association, it members have been calling and complaining of how they are suffering in this high inflation economy. Teachers across the country are suffering from the hardship of the economy. Teachers according to a statement made by the Greater Accra regional NAGRAT secretary that, there are some teachers who have forced themselves to send their wives and children to the village over high cost of living in their working places.

Salaries of teachers is nothing to talk about. Some of them have to survive on bank loans with high interest rate. This current economy and the difficulties in living has pushed some members to call on their leaders on such issues. Some take transport to and from their work place at an increased transportation. What to eat for the day and what to give for the day has always been a headache according to some teachers.

All these complains have pushed the union to call for 20% cost of living allowance.

They have given the government up to the end of the month of June. If nothin is done, they will declare a nationwide strike.
