The management of the Ghana Education Service has given all teachers the chance to participate in the forthcoming 2021 population census.
In some previous exercises that teachers participated, many of then were queried for abandoning instructional hours. This led to many schools refusing to grant teachers the chance to participate in such activities.
In a statement released by the management of the Ghana Edcuation Service today, all Regional Directors of Education have been asked to take note and communicate same to staff the urgency of the teacher's importance in the 2021population census. The Director General of Ghana Education Service, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, has advised Directors of Education to allow teachers to partake in the exercise.
The Director General further added that the perception that some teachers do abandon contact hours to carry out research works affect students performance in both Senior High and Basic level is untrue. He stressed that teachers can go to school and sign, give assignments and leave after some hours to undertake such an important exercise.
Further, he added that it is about time teachers become smart and use their time wisely, as their salary is nothing to write home about.
All teachers shortlisted have been advised to be smart enough to act accordingly as Ghana needs highly knowledgeable officials to embark on such an important public assignment.
This was discussed in a meeting held in Accra, 30th April, 2021 after the Ghana Statistical Service had released the list of enumerators.
