Ghana Education Service wants key data on schools latest by 19th April, 2021, checkout details

The Regional Education Directorate intends to collate data on all schools within its jurisdiction for planning purposes. A letter dated 14th April, 2021, and signed by Miss Mary Owusu Afiriyie, the Regional Director, directs all District Internal Auditors supervise the data collection process.

It very surprising that Heads of Basic Schools have just few days to collect the data and forward them to the District Education Directorates. They are also requested to send both and soft copies of the data. The data should reach the the Ashanti Regional Internal Auditor's Office not later than Monday 19th April, 2021.

According to the letter, the Ghana Education Service wants to a collate on the number of teachers in each school(both permanent and others), enrollment figures for Kindergarten up Junior High School, number of classroom (whether some classes are under trees or sheds) and number of furniture available.

District Internal Auditors have been admonished to supervise the exercise for credibility sake. However, looking at how large some districts are, it be very difficult for them (Internal Auditors) to go the ground for first hand information.

The frequency of how Ghana Education Service seeks data and information from Heads of schools is very worrying as it exposes the supervisory body's data collection and management capacity.
