As part of measures to wean off most schools from the double track system in 2021/2022 academic year, the Free Senior High School Secretariat is leaving no stone unturned to realise this dream. Ministry of Education and the Free Senior High School Secretariat have embark on feasibility studies in the Senior High Schools to identify schools that can be taken off from the double track educational system.
The exercise undertaken by the Ministry of Education and the Free Senior High School Secretariat includes, collecting data on the total classrooms available in each Senior High School, the boarding facilities available and the number of students the schools can take if they are to run on single track.
Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service announced abolishment of the double track system for the current Senior High School year one, it turned out that the data that informed their decision to abolish the double track system was inaccurate, they later called on the heads of Senior High Schools to assign the students into tracks.
This created confusion for the reopening date for the current final year students who are writing their WASCE. They reported to school on the reopening date and they were told to go back home.
Ministry of Education and the Free Senior High School Secretariat has sent an excel templates to heads of secondary, Technical and vocational institutes to declare vacancies available in their schools. The template is soliciting for additional information for analysis.
Schools that had few mistakes in the previous vacancy declaration information they submitted and wanted to change should take advantage and effect those mistakes, If year 2 and 3 are to run single track for 2021/2022,how many classrooms will be available for the first years? Heads have been requested to factor in their declaration equation, ongoing classroom projects that potentially may be completed before the beginning of the academic year.
There are a lot of uncompleted projects in the various Senior High Schools which includes classrooms and dormitories, if these abandoned projects are given the needed attention, Ghana Education Service will be able to abolish the double track educational system. Those in charge of collecting data should ensure accurate and reliable data to inform their decision making to abolish the double track educational system.
The less endowed schools have a lot of vacancies available but students are congested in the category A schools. If government upgrade each school in a district to a model school, students within the district will be enrolled in schools in their catchment areas.
