Teacher trainees continue to lament over the government's inability to pay their monthly allowance as expected.
It's quite disappointing and worrying that since August 2020, teacher trainees have received allowance for only two months. No allowance was paid to them for the whole of last semester.
Most of the trainees rely on this allowances to cater for their various needs like buying books, and other items to support their teaching practice. Some even use it to pay for their academic year fees and examination fees. The government's failure has left some of them unable to pay for their examination fees, books and other items.
Meanwhile, before coming into office, restoration of teacher trainees allowance was one of the main campaign messages of the current government led by His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo.
It's however, disappointing to teacher trainees because it was actually a solemn promise made by Nana Akuffo Addo to them.
Expressing their disappointment, some of them said " if it's possible to acquire a loan worth $28M to procure vehicles for members of Parliament, then it is equally possible to acquire a loan to pay them their arrears".
They are therefore making a passionate appeal to the president not to sleep on his promise but should make efforts to improve upon the payments.
