A 16-year-old nursing mother decided it is not over for her education even though she has a baby. Esi Andoi is a form one student of Mando Senior High School in the Adjumako Essiam District in the Central region.
The determined mother who aspires to become a nurse in the future did not let her situation discourage her, even though her parents wanted her to learn a vocational trade after she gave birth. Narrating the story to the media, Andoi said that she got pregnant whiles in final year, just about when she was about to write her final exams. She continued that after writing her final exams, her parents wanted her to enroll her in apprenticeship because of the baby,, but she insisted.
Later, when the BECE results were released, she obtained aggregate 19 which obviously placed her in a second cycle institutions. With her ambition to become a nurse by profession, she went to see the headmistress of Mando SHS for admission. Fortunately for her, she was given the admission to further her school.
Since then, the teenage mother has been attending school carrying her baby at her back every day. When asked how she manages to learn in school with the baby around, she replied that a woman at the security post of the school has been taking care of the baby every time for her. She added that she breastfeeds the baby as when she calls for it.
Although Andoi is very optimistic and passionate about her dreams, her father who used to support her education died a month after she started school. As if that was not enough, her mother is currently bedridden with stroke. Whereas the father of the child is missing. This has made it difficult to support her education.
The Assistant headmaster of the school who was thrilled with Andoi's determination also disclosed that Andoi needs public support to continue her education. The Education Director, Madam Otoo was happy that Andoi's story will be shared with the rest of the world for public support for the young mother.
