Staff and Students in Santasi M/A basic School celebrates the AU day in a grand style

On 9th July 2002, some African leaders gathered in Durban, South Africa to launch the African Union (AU), a successor to the Organization of African Unity (OAU) which was created on 25 May 1963 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This was motivated by the urge for the Continental Organisation to unify the fifty-five (55) Member States and accelerate the process of continental integration with the view to enable Africa to play its rightful role in the global economy, while addressing the social, economic and political problems within the continent.

This day (25th May), has been noted for African day within the Continent, with Ghana not being an exception. During this day, schools in Ghana mostly put on African dress to depicts the true culture of being an African. 

Today, the staff and pupils in Santasi M/A basic school in the Nyhiaeso Constituency in the Ashanti region wore African dress to the school instead of the school uniform with the aim of celebrating AU day. The pupils out of great enthusiasm displayed their ethnic cloths indicating the value they have for the Ghanian Culture.

The Headmaster, Mr. Stephen Mensah Abrampa with an interview with Kwaku Yeboah Joshua, revealed that the African Union day is day to cherish the union of Africans, so it dawned on him as the headmaster to allow his staff and pupils to depict Africa by putting on made in Ghana wear". He added that the school looked colorful today and it is a clear indication that Africa is indeed beautiful.

The boys prefect in the School, Joseph Kyei day Antwi also reiterated that "Celebrating the AU day in the school is a good attempt to promote not only Ghanian culture , but also African culture as a whole". He added that he look forward to seeing his school wearing more of the African dress to promote African culture.
