Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako is the third Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy And Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani in the Bono Region of Ghana.
Inducted into office on November 27, 2020, the Professor of Plant Biology at the Department of Crop Science, University of Cape Coast (UCC) until his current role was the Dean of the School of Agriculture, University of Cape Coast.
He attended Bekwai SDA Senior High School in the Ashanti Region for his Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates. He obtained a Diploma in Education and a BSc degree in Agriculture in 1997 with an M Phil in Crop Science (Plant Pathology) in 2003 all from the University of Cape Coast. He had his PhD in Plant and Environmental Sciences with specialization in Plant Virology from the University of Warwick, UK in 2012.
The eminent academic who has lectured since 2004 has trained and supervised M Phil and PhD students in various areas of Plant Virology and Protection, having been promoted to Associate Professor and Full Professor in 2018.
Having won research grants from both local and international institutions, he has conducted extensive research in virus disease epidemics in key food security crops and vegetables.
Prof. Asare-Bediako has served on statutory and adhoc committees, and worked on various projects and held several roles/positions in the University of Cape Coast. He has also served on a number of National to include (National Best Farmer Selection Committee Member, 2006) and International Committees.
He has been an external examiner/assessor at University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science And Technology (KNUST) and University for Development Studies (UDS). Others are Tamale Council for Scientific And Industrial Research, Methodist University College, Accra and Abeokuta Agricultural University in Nigeria.
Prof. Asare-Bediako is author/co-author of several publications on various aspects of Plant Virology and Protection in peer reviewed journals and book chapters, and has also been a reviewer for a number of journals. He has attended and presented papers at several conferences and workshops both local and abroad.
A board member of the Central Regional Chamber of Commerce, he is also the Founding President of the Plant Protection Society of Ghana and the American Phytopathological Society (APS). He is also a member of Ghana Science Association and was a member of the British Society of Plant Pathologists (2008-2014), and Association of Applied Biologists (2008-2012).
A member of the Methodist Church, he is married to Mrs. Edith Asare-Bediako, they are blessed with four children.
