Teaching and Learning Materials(TLM) is an important aspect in Education, a teacher cannot achieve his or her Learning objectives without teaching and Learning Materials to facilitate the institutions.
Most of our schools in Ghana, especially schools in the deprived communities have no access to teaching and Learning materials, the teachers have to improvise them to facilitate the delivery of their lessons.
The teacher is seen as a package of knowledge because the teacher is able to improvise what does not exist in the school. Some teachers use stones to improvise Computer mouse, that is odd. Most teachers are doing their best.
Improvisation is the the ability to take existing pieces and put them together in a new combination for a purpose. The pieces could be bits of information about a problem or they could be parts of a melody. Teachers or students apply tools or methods to these pieces in a very flexible manner.
Improvisation in teaching
If improvisation is important in teaching and learning, what are the conditions that can be set up to promote this in lectures. How can we use improvisation in our own teaching and how can we get students to improvise in order to solve problems and answer novel questions in the science laboratory.
Improvisation is the activity of making or doing something not planned beforehand, using whatever can be found. Improvisation in the performing arts is a very spontaneous performance without specific or scripted preparation.
The process of improvisation gives teachers' the knowledge of creativity, manipulative skills, and critical thinking. Improvisation helps in saving cost of looking for ready made instructional media which are more costly. It encourages self-reliance and a feeling of confidence during instruction delivery.
