Make use of RTI; Oppong Nkrumah tells Academia and Media

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, has levied the academic community and media specialists to use the RTI Law, Act 989, to get reliable data from state establishments for their work.

Responding to inquiries in Parliament yesterday, Mr Nkrumah said the law, which forced a commitment on open organizations to give data to candidates, was underutilized.

"Mr Speaker, may I make the most of the open door given me to contact the entire country, especially the local scholastic area. Many of our youth have whined about hardships in gaining admittance to data when setting up their papers, etc. Many organizations work like they are helping you out.

"The RTI Act gives you lawful cover to apply for data from public organizations for educational purposes. Likewise, to our associates in the media, we need to energize significantly more utilization of the Act's perpetual retreat to theories and gossip. The RTI Act awards you to, by regulation, access data for reasons for media work," he added.

The Minister was giving updates on the advancement of the execution of the law since its commencement in 2020 on the floor of Parliament.

The law, he said, permitted the two media experts and people in the scholarly world to gain admittance to reliable data with which they could use in expositions and media works.

He said since its presentation, the law had gained significant headway, noticing that from the hour of its execution to date, a sum of 223 RTI demands had been gotten such a long way by open establishments.

He demonstrated that going by the between time figures ordered from the different RTI workplaces of state establishments in 2021 alone, a sum of 129 solicitations for data was put together by people and foundations and were gotten by 47 organizations.

Out of this number, 87 were gotten from people while 42 were from foundations.

In 2022, a sum of 10 solicitations for data was put together by people and foundations and got by seven public organizations as of the finish of January 2022. Out of the ten applications got, five, addressing 50 per cent, where getting from people while 50% were obtained from organizations
