New GES Director General's Appointment must be Terminated with Immediate Effect

A few days after the President of Ghana, Pres Nana Addo, dismissed Prof Opoku Amankwa as GES Director General, has appointed Dr Eric Nkansah as new Director General to the Ghana Education Service (GES).

This current appointment by the President could not stand the test of time as the opposition to his new Director General appointed is very worrying and malignant. As the President await the acceptance letter from his newly appointed GES Director General, Teacher Unions including myinority Caucus in parliament and so many stakeholders is against the appointment.

The Ghana Education Service constitute so many bodies and professors who are qualified and willing to assume such position but have been denied while given to an accountant. This strategy by the President indirectly indicates that the professors in the country are not incompetent as he undermines their professionalism.

This therefore calls for the immediate termination of the appointment of Dr Eric Nkansah as GES Director General. This motive has been supported by so many groups in the country which includes once again; the teacher unions, professional class, labour experts, minority caucus, educationist and most stakeholders.

Could this mean the President is really confused? Infact Ghana is on the mess and must be rescued immediately before any damages is incured. This prompted the various Teacher Unions to threaten rejection of Dr Eric Nkansah as GES Director General if the President refused to decline his decision.

It is really saddened for a country like Ghana, education system to be managed by a non-educationist despite all the professors in the country. This shows that the country has no professors if the Director General of Education would be an accountant. The pungent rejection to the appointment is in the right direction as the confusion from the presidency seems real and critical.

The President is hereby urged to reconsider and take the second look at his appointment of the new Director General to the Ghana Education Service or face the wrath of the angry Ghanaians.
