The 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) which kicked off on 16th August 2021 with project work for Visual Arts candidates officially ends today with Ghanaian language paper (Twi).

The West African Examinations Council earlier revealed that a total of 446,321 prospective SHS 3 students representing 221,437 males and 234,884 females from a total of 965 Senior High Schools in which 651 are public schools and the remaining 314 are private schools were expected to sit for the WASSCE which ends today, Friday 8th October 2021. In all 763 examination centres were indicated by WAEC as the examination centres for the WASSCE.

Due to the Covid-19 impact on the various school's academic calendar, the about to end WASSCE which before 2020 was previously written in April was adjusted to August. This is the second batch of of candidates since the Free Senior High School commenced in 2017 and the 15th batch since the introduction of WASSCE in 2006.

This year's soon to end WASSCE was not without any problem. Some sections of the WASSCE papers were reported to have leaked. The leakages were first confirmed by Eduwatch's ( an Education think thank ) WASSCE 2021 Monitoring team. They said that Food and Nutrition Paper 3 which was scheduled for Friday, August 20, 2021 was leaked on social media at 24 hours before the paper was written. WAEC initially denied the Allegations.

However Mr. George Ohene-Mantey, the Head of West African Examination Council’s Test Administration Division, confirmed that part of Mathematics and the English language papers on 9th and 13th September were leaked. Part of Elective Maths Questions also leaked as he confirmed.

The straw that broke the camel's back set in when WAEC announced the postponement of Physics and Business Management papers which were set to be written on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. This brought WAEC under intense pressure and public scrutiny. The postponed papers were eventually written on October 1st and October 7th 2021 respectively. Some people even suggested that WAEC's monopoly should be broken.

Eventually the West African Examination arrested Godfred Darko, a rogue Telegram group operator whom they said was responsible for the leaked postponed papers.

Despite all brouhahas of this year's WASSCE, it comes to a successful end today with Ghanaian language paper.
