The Scholarship Secretariat in order to deepen public trust, accessibility and transparency had decentralised it's operations to the District levels. The decentralization of the scholarship scheme is focused on eliminating the difficulties applicants go through previously where prospective applicants travel long distance to Accra Head Office in order to access the package. This initiative is to make the scheme more accessible irrespective of of where one finds him or herself.
The Secretariat is working in collaboration with the Regional council, Metropolitan and District assemblies to ensure that more qualified Ghanaians have access to to the scheme.
The scholarship Secretariat in collaboration with GETFUND has made provision of Eighty million Ghana Cedi (ghc80,000,000) to students in local institutions and is expected to provide support to about 70,000 eligible Ghanaians for the 2020/2021 academic year.
The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat is an organization under the office of the President of the Republic of Ghana established in 1960 to handle and award scholarship for human resource development and growth of the country.
It's mission is to utilize government funds thus GETFUND and Donor Support for the provision of scholarship to brilliant but needy students and qualified workers for human resource development for the purpose of National growth and development.
The 2020/2021 applicants in the various District will be contacted by the respective District via text message to schedule a date. The exercise is set to commence on June 15th, 2020.
It is with the bud of hope that the intentions for the decentralization of the scholarship scheme which is to ensure transparency, accessibility and remove the old barriers will be brought to bare as the interview begins and will not toll in any political direction.
