Teachers and Medical personnel sidelined in committee for reopening of schools

The ministry of Education has come out with a committee instituted to provide the roadmap for the reopening of our schools from the pre-tertiary level.

The committee which is headed by a former minister of education and the current board Chairman of the GetFund, Professor Dominic Fobih, is but without the inclusion of any of the leadership of the various teacher Unions such as the GNAT or Nagrat.

The members of the committee are as follows:

1. Mr. Michael Nsowah ~ Chair, GES Council

  1. Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwa ~ Director-General, GES

  2. Mr. Anthony Boateng ~ Deputy Director-General (M & S), GES

  3. Dr. Kwabena Tandoh ~ Deputy Director-General (Q & A), GES
  4. Mrs. Kate Appiah-Pinkrah ~ Director, Pre-Tertiary, MoE
  5. Mr. Madeez Adamu Issah ~ Rep, UNICEF
  6. Mr. I. K Mensah ~ Rep, Private Schools
  7. Nana Kwasi Amoako ~ P.T.A Chair, Accra Girls SHS
  8. Mrs. Patty Assan ~ Director, Schools and Instructions

The committee which was inaugurated by the minister of education, Dr. Matthew Opuku Prempeh, on the19th August, 2020 has as it terms of reference to advise the President on the modalities to follow for the reopening of schools.

Looking at the committee also you can see there is not Medical expert among them.

One will asked why should they be included? We all know in this time of COVID-19 the expert advice is of paramount importance. Moreover, we closed the schools based on the experts advice why then open it without them.

Maybe the ministry has a better explanation till then we ask why exclude these groups of people from something that has a lot to do with them.
