Stephen Desu, the founder of Innovative Teachers has descended on the three popular teacher unions namely GNAT, NAGRAT and CCT-GH for not representing their members' interest but rather doing whatever they like because they have massive membership.
In a press briefing shared on their Facebook page, the founder of the teacher union with thousands of members listed numerous examples to prove that these three teacher unions have disappointed their members over the past years.
End of year package
Mr. Desu noted that the distribution of end of year packages for teachers in these unions is a gross disrespect to teachers because they have been sharing either umbrellas, diaries, rice and cooking oil, pen drives and even towels to teachers as the end of year package. According to him, these items are not worth it to be given to teachers, looking at the amount of money they have been paying to ten as monthly dues.
Laptop for teachers
Furthermore, he stated that these unions are forcing TM1 laptops on their members, which they know is of low quality. He added that GNAT, NAGRAT and CCT-GH were the brain behind the “One Teacher One Laptop Project” and even suggested KA Technologies, to manufacture a substandard laptop that is not certified under the laws of Ghana by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to enrich their pockets.
Unknown to many teachers, Mr. Desu revealed that the teacher unions used members' tier two pension fund to pre-finance the manufacturing of the laptops when the Ghana Education Service at the time had no money to finance it.
Additionally, GNAT forced their members to sign up to an insurance policy by Mi life and are being deducted monies without the consent of members because GNAT had entered into an agreement with the insurance company.
The founder of Innovative Teachers has alerted the three giant teacher unions that come next year, no teacher would be forced to do anything against his/her will, especially when it comes to being deducted from his/her salary at source from the Controller And Accountant General's Department.
