Lawyer and member of Parliament for the Sekondi Constituency, Andrew Egyapa Mercer has reiterated that Ghana does not have the resources to solve all the problems in the country.
He proffered this opinion when he appeared as a panelist on the Newday show on TV3 today, February 16, 2022, with host Berla Mundi.
The question is; do we deserve to be at this stage as a country with all the resources we have?
Andrew Egyapa Mercer was speaking to a viral video that was shown on the show with students learning under dilapidated structures and very worrying conditions in the Afram Plains specifically, Senanu Kofe D/A school.
The teacher bungalow has been abandoned because it is not fit for its purpose and teachers have been refusing postings to the area.
Currently, the teacher deficit in the area is at a whopping figure of 519. It has also been alleged that about one hundred and fifty (150) who have been posted to the Afram Plains North have initiated efforts to change their postings.
Apart from the unwholesome conditions affecting teaching and learning, teachers refuse postings to the area as a result of lack of electricity, telephone communication among others.
Community leaders have made efforts to assuage the situation over the years but not much has been realized.
Reacting further to the situation, Honorable Andrew Egyapa Mercer said; " If we had all the resources to solve all our problems, all of them would have been solved by now but the truth of the matter is that we do not have all the resources to solve all our problems in one goal. This problem was larger in the past, increasingly some of them have been resolved and we can only hope that as we get more resources into the resource envelope".
He was of the view that resolving the educational challenges takes time because previous governments all played their part in resolving the situation even though it remains a problem in the country.
"Increasingly, governments after governments make investments in those areas to try and reduce some of these structures that we see in the Afram Plains enclave", he added.
He was of the view that issues about the educational sector should not be politicized.
