GES Postpones Online ICT Training Indefinitely Out Of Pressure

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has finally put the upcoming online training for teachers on hold until further notice as they make arrangements to hold discussions and deliberations on the suitable date to organize the training.

According to a letter sighted by Bricy Boateng, the details found in there said, “Management of the Ghana Education Service will like to inform you that the online ICT training in connection with the One Teacher, One Laptop initiative scheduled for 16th February 2022 has been put on hold.”

According to the letter, it revealed that management will have to make further engagements and discussions probably with stakeholders such as teacher unions to arrive at a suitable date, mode, and time.

“In collaboration with KA Technologies (KAT) and Microsoft, Ghana Education Service will have further deliberations and discussions to come up with a new date and timeline.” It mentioned.

Earlier this week, teachers were informed by the Management of GES to participate in a six-hour (2 hours each day for three days) technical training on TM 1 laptops starting on February 16, 2022. Meanwhile, several issues were raised by some education bloggers (Bricy Boateng) and teacher unions (ATAG) concerning the suitability of the training.

It emerged that the upcoming online workshop was inconvenient for teachers and, worst of all, a breach of agreement between GES and teacher unions concerning the mode and length of the training. Out of pressure, management of GES has postponed the training until further notice.
