The Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed Senior High School Heads to mobilize their Management Teams to safeguard the safety and wellbeing of all students in the classrooms through the Regional and District Directors.
In response to the government's refusal to give them a 20 percent cost of living allowance in light of the current high inflation rate, increases in the price of goods and services, among other things, the leadership of all the different unions in the pre-tertiary education sector went on a nationwide strike.
The GES stated in a press release that it has subsequently asked the union leadership to a meeting to discuss the development and the next steps.
Parents are advised to maintain their composure and can rest easy knowing that management is closely observing the circumstance and will provide advice on the best course of action as needed.
Additionally, it said that Regional and District Directors have been instructed to make sure that all elementary schools are open and that students who report to them are closely supervised.
