The finals of the regional championships in the Ashanti region was expected to be feisty and this didn’t disappoint. Already big wigs like Kumasi Academy had been bundled out at the semifinals. The finals featured former champions of Prempeh College, Opoku Ware and minnows Kumasi Secondary Technical.
With the stage set the trophy was bound to go to Patasi, Santasi or Sofoline. The contest started with all three sides displaying intelligence and mastery over the questions posed. However, with time Prempeh college broke free and gave the others a big gap and emerged as runaway leaders after round 1 with scores at Prempeh College at 27, Opoku Ware at 17 and Kumasi Sec. Tech. with 16 points.
The second round witnessed lots of action as the boys were separated from the men. Prempeh College and Opoku Ware pulled clear. However, it was Opoku Ware who did wonders as they clawed back to end the second round 3 points behind Prempeh College. In the third round Prempeh College woke up from their slumber to take over the game again leaving Opoku Ware limping behind them.
At the end of the Third round Prempeh College emerged victorious with 46 points followed by Opoku Ware with 37 points and Kumasi Sec. Tech coming third with 27 points. The final round ended with Prempeh College amassing 52 points, Opoku Ware with 37 points and Kumasi Sec. Tech with 33 points. This win means that Prempeh College are the Ashanti Regional NSMQ Champions.
