The Management of Ghana Education Service on Thursday, January 13th 2022 released the Academic calendar for All schools for the year 2022. One thing that was a bit unclear was whether the KG and Primary Schools are to run a trimester base system or a semester base.
Professor Opoku Amankwah the Director General of Education speaking on UTV has confirmed that both Junior High Schools ( JHS), Primary and KG will now run a semester based academic calendar.
" Like I've already said, they were running different calenders but now they will both go together and vacate on the same date". Prof Amankwah said.
According to the calendar both JHS, Primary and KG will reopen school on January 18th 2022 and vacate on 9th June 2022. This means they will spend 143 days equivalent to 5 months in their first semester.
Before the Covid-19 outbreak, bother JHS and Primary Schools were running a trimester bases. Thus they run first term, second term and third term. After the Covid-19, the Semester based academic calendar and primary schools used the trimester based.
It's now confirmed that a semester level would be run for all Levels in the Ghana Education System.
