A peaceful demonstration by students of the Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi-Abrepo turned violent when police stormed the school. Tear gas and live bullets were fired leading to over 20 students loosing consciousness.
Reports this evening indicates that, the last of the students admitted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital have been discharged. They have been given medications and allowed to leave.
The pupils who were rushed to the hospital complained of different health conditions. Excessive coughing, vomiting and panic attacks were the main problems.
The IGP Mr. Dampare has paid a visit to the KATH and Suntreso health center where the students were receiving treatment. He later assured students, teachers and media that his outfit will make sure everyone will be safe. He also stated that there is no need to panic as everything is under control now.
Worried parents thronged to the school insisting to see their wards, but were told to go and come the next day.
The students are expected to write an exam tomorrow. Calm has since returned to the school.
Former Director of Formed Police Unit, Chief Superintendent Hamza Yakubu in an interview with TV3 says that, the live bullet seen in a video making rounds appears to be a fake bullet.
No student was harmed from the bullets fired. No fatality recorded yet.
