From Free SHS to free Tertiary - Can Nana Addo fulfill it this time around

His excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has made another statement concerning the educational system of Ghana. It could be recalled that, in 2008 when he was contesting for the presidential seat, one of his flagship message was free senior high school education. His promise received a lot of backslashes from their opponents as they kept on saying it was not going to be possible.

Despite several attacks from the other side, Nana Akufo Addo's government in 2016 was able to actualize the Free SHS policy after taking the nod. Though there are many challenges that were encountered but the program is rolling on. Free SHS has benefited over 400,000 Ghanaian children and still in force unabated.

It looks like the president's attention has been channelled to the tertiary education. In a post that was sighted on the gram, the government is considering free tertiary education following the successful implementation of the free senior high school policy. The multi million question is, will the government be able to implement this great opportunity once again? The reason been that, tertiary education is very expensive as compared to senior high school. And with the free senior high policy, a lot of monies have entered into it. Looking at the economy of the country, will it permit the government to consider such initiative?
