Teacher Education: Program of Study and the Level of Students to Teach 

College of Education is an institution that train teachers with methodologies of teaching, psychology of education, instructional technology, classroom management, measurement and evaluation. College of Education provide a holistic teacher training.

Teachers are trained to instruct the curriculum in our schools, the training colleges in the country train teachers in the following programs 


Mathematics Education 

Agricultural Science Education 

Mathematics/ICT Education 

Mathematics/Science Education 

RME/Music Education 

History/Geography Education

Primary Education 

Curriculum is the outline of concepts to be taught to students to help them meet the content standards. Curriculum is what is taught in a given course or subject. Curriculum refers to an interactive system of instruction and learning with specific goals, contents, strategies, measurement, and resources.


Teachers instruct the topics specified in the curriculum, teachers who studied primary Education are posted to teach in the primary schools.


Teachers with subject specialization are posted to teach in the Junior High Schools.

The program of study at the teacher training College will determine the level of class to teach.


Teachers who go through University Education take a course related to the subjects in the Senior High Schools and such teachers are recruited to teach in the Senior High Schools.

To teach in the Senior High Schools, the teacher have to study one of the following programs at the University:

Bachelor Education(English, French and Ghanaian Language)

Bachelor of Science Information Technology Education 

Bachelor of Science Integrated Science Education 

Bachelor of Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) Education and etc.


The above programs are available in the educational universities, University of Education and University of Cape Coast.


The Senior High Schools have subject specialists teachers unlike the basic Schools.


Graduate from the University who studied a program related to subject in the Senior High Schools but are without education background are made to study education to qualified them as professional teachers.
