JCR system is eliminated by KNUST after the Conti-Katanga incident

The Junior Common Room (JCR) system at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has been eliminated as a result of recent incidents related to the University Hall's hall week celebrations (Katanga).

The Council maintains that all Hall Week and SRC Week celebrations have been put on indefinite hold following an emergency meeting on August 26 to consider the findings of the University's Fact-Finding Committee.

The Council outright denounced the recent violence that broke out on the university campus.

The Council gave students a stern warning and ordered them to maintain peace among one another.

The following resolutions were adopted by the Council:

The Junior Common Room system of hall management by students is eliminated as of the 2023–2024 academic year.

Any student who assists in organizing a "morale" event or parade will be immediately expelled.

Students whose behavior justifies expulsion will have their names and images prominently publicized in national newspapers and on the university website.

Any student(s) found harboring expelled, rusticated, withdrawn, or alumni in their room in one of the residence halls on campus will face the applicable sanctions.
