Ghana Education Service issued a communique last week telling Heads of Senior High Schools to send the final year students back home. No apparent reasons were given, but is is believed that the schools cannot accommodate SHS 1,2 and 3 students at the same time.
Reports coming in from the various District Education Directorates across the Ashanti Region indicate that, the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate in conjunction with the Free Senior High Secretariat have launched "operation fill all senior high school in Ashanti Region". This operation was launched today, Tuesday 13th April, 2021, via circular.
In the circular signed by the Ashanti Regional Director, Mary Owusu Afiriyie (Miss), there are about thirty thousand (30000) potential Junior High school leavers across the country who been placed at one senior high school or another but are yet enroll. Over ten thousand (10,000) of these students are in the Ashanti Regional alone.
The circular is admonishing Heads of Basic Schools to contact these yet to enroll students and get them enrolled in schools where vacancies exist. The students will be given a chance to change to a school of their choice.
Heads of senior high schools have also been encouraged to find these students and accommodate them in their schools while Ghana Education Service and the Free Senior High Secretariat intends to regularise their stay.
This latest move by the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate will raise eyebrows as there seem to be overcrowding in our High school amid Coronavirus pandemic.
