A total of 62,000 laptops have been supplied to the Senior High School Teachers, According to Ghana Education Service.
This week was all about 1 teacher, 1 laptop distribution and it's the confusion surrounding the cost, mode of procurement, qualify of the brand and amount deducted from the teachers professional development allowances.
There were a lot of teachers who threatened their various Unions (National Association of Graduate Teachers, Coalition of Concerned Teachers and Ghana National Association of Teachers) with Court actions.
Many also opted not to accept it.
However, Ghana Education Service has explained that the distribution of the Laptops are ongoing and so far, 80% of the products have been supplied to the Senior High School Teachers.
In a release issued by GES, distribution to the SHS teachers would be completed by 17th of this month so that, Basic School Teachers will have theirs early next year.
"The project was duly launched on 3rd September 2021 by H.E Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, ably supported by the Minister of Education, his Deputy and the Director General of GES."
"AS of today, 10th December, 2021, 80% of the 62,000 laptops for Senior High School Teachers have been delivered across the Regions. This phased is expected to be completed by 17th December, 2021."
"Phase two and three for Junior High School and primary schools will commence in January, 2022 when schools re- open."
The statement further explained that, the Laptops have GES/NaCCA and other resources on it to assist lesson delivery.
Again, IT personnel have been trained to provide assistance to the teachers when they encounter difficulties.
