The Deputy Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES), Lawyer Anthony Boateng has urged all teachers not solely rely on textbooks as their source of reference during teaching and preparation of teaching and materials.
Speaking to Joy News on 12 January 2021 which was monitored by listengh.net, he indicated that textbooks are to only serve as supplements.
The teacher is supposed to research and provide practical contents to feed the minds of the pupils.
He however indicated that GES will supply students and teachers with reusable nose masks to help prevent the spread of the novel virus.
The headteachers and teachers will ensure that social distancing will be strictly adhered to in schools to reduce the risk children will be exposed to.
With regards to the implementation of the new curriculum, he indicated that textbooks are been procured and some are been delivered to schools.
“Textbooks are been procured and some are been delivered to schools-some will be distributed before or after schools resumes”, he indicated.
In his submission, the deputy director-general indicated that the first guidelines for the reopening of schools will be made available tomorrow, January 13, 2021. However, kindergarten 1 and 2 will go to school at 8 am and close at noon.
All other classes apart from the above mentioned will close at the normal class hours.
He also revealed that there is an ongoing discussion with the government to expand the school feeding program to cover other schools. He, however, could not confirm whether the one hot meal feeding program for JHS students will continue as schools resume.
With regards to the use of dual desks, he indicated that its usage has been restricted to halt the spread of the virus. He, therefore, charged heads of various schools to seek to it that this measure is strictly adhered to.
In confirming the re-organization of the new curriculum workshop also known as the Common Core Programme (CCP) for teachers at the various districts, he indicated that the district workshop will come on within the first 8 weeks.
