In Ghana, most SHS students find it difficult understanding physics, which is why I will be bringing you SHS 1 physics each and every day. As we known, "a strong foundation builds a great future", which is why I will be taking SHS 1 topics.
Today, I will be taking you over a topic in physics called "Elasticity". Because of the confusing nature of this topic, most people escape learning it, but today I will break it down to your understanding.
Before we begin, there is one key word you must first know because we will be using it during the lesson.
Deformation : it's the change in shape and dimension of an object when external force is applied to it.
Bellow is all you need to know about the topic "Elasticity":
The ability of a deformed object to return back to its original shape when the external force is removed is termed as "Elasticity". All elastic materials comply with Hook's modulus which state that "Provided the elastic level is not exceeded, the stress applied on an object is directly proportional to the the strain of its dimension". Sometimes, Elasticity is regarded by people as "plasticity", but there Elasticity and plasticity are two different things all together.
Plasticity is directly the opposite of Elasticity, which makes plasticity "the inability of an object to return back to its original shape when the external force is removed.
Deformation as I earlier explained "is the change in shape shape and dimension of an object when external force is applied. To explain further, there are 5 main forces which are involved when it comes to deformation, these forces are; compressive force, tensile force, share force, volume force, etc. To conclude with, here are some examples of Elastic and plastic materials; clay, rubber bands, etc.
