All Teachers Alliance Ghana (ATAG) opined that teacher unions should have pushed for a 15% salary increment with the government instead of the 15% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) that was given to them.
Their argument follows the acceptance of a 15% cost of living allowance by the Teachers Union to call off the strike.
ATAG said the 15% increment of teachers' salaries would have improved the conditions of teachers for an indefinite time.
The National President of the union, Isaac Ofori said the government may not maintain teachers on the 15% cost of living allowance because the government has served notice that the 15 percent Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) for members of organized labor would be canceled when the conditions that called for it are no more in existence.

“What is the guarantee that after the government takes all the workers off the COLA, it is going to specifically maintain teachers on it? If teachers agree on a five or seven percent salary increment, it means that we have lost the negotiations,” he questioned.
