The celebrated morning show host at Onua FM/TV Captain Godsbrain Smart has made a damning allegation against the government. According to him, the government has resolved to cancel the trainee allowances offered to nurses and teacher trainees. On his morning show today, he made this allegation. He is of the view that these allowances are not equitable. They are just political tools used by governments to win votes.
He went further to describe it as the most useless policy he has seen. The fact of the matter is that these allowances drain quite an amount from government coffers. I don't believe in the payment of these allowances. They should all be migrated unto the student loan scheme. After all, they are not better than other tertiary students.
They are even lucky to have some form of job security unlike others in the public universities who will have to fight for a job or better still create one themselves. The trainee allowances must be aborted. It is as simple as that. It should not be politicised.
