GES: Employ Non Teaching Staff for Offices Rather than Transferring Teachers there

Director General of Education, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah

Some Teachers within the Ghana Education Service have called on the Director General for Education, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah to employ more Non-Teaching staff for the Purpose of Running Education Offices Rather Than Transferring Classroom teachers to Education Offices are Civil Servants.

Explaining the Issue, they sighted instances where a teacher of Home Economics or a Mathematics Teacher is moved from the classroom to the Education office as Human Resource Manager, how can the person perform as expected in that role? They quizzed, Mathematics or Home Economics has nothing to do with Human Resource Management. They added that a science teacher can be transfered to Education office to be a Secretary, how do those areas relate.

Some Teachers within Upper West have also added that the development seeks to mis-define their profession, let non-teaching staff do their work, don't transfer teachers to do jobs they were not trained to do, it reduces quality of output and brings division of mind, it also affects accountability since the workers keep coming and going and files keep getting mixed up, the teacher is in that office tomorrow, the next day he is in the classroom another teacher takes over and the next day he is transfered to class, how do you get accountability in database or records management. The concluded that the act has deprived classrooms of teachers.

The teachers have called for GES to reorganize educational Administrations with the needed recruitments rather than using teachers.
