Education Workers Connect has stated that the exclusion of Teacher Unions from the committee constituted by the Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh to advise on modalities for reopening of schools is inappropriate.
Education Workers Connect expressed shock at the composition of the Committee stated that it was not complete given the fact that our hardworking Teachers were left out. They argued that it is improper to reopon schools without the valuable contributions from the Teachers.
They further stated that the exclusion of expert from the Ghana Medical Association is also a minus and also makes the Committee incomplete and inappropriate. They argued that, we are battling a health condition and therefore, they input from the Ghana Medical Association is needed most in times like this. They wondered why the Minister left out these two important group who input are most needed as at now for the reopening of schools.
It would be recalled that the Minister of Education, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on 19th August 2020 constituted a 10- member committee in Accra ostensibly to advise on modalities towards the reopening of schools at the pre-tertiary level and are expected to report to the Minister on Monday 21st September 2020 with its recommendations.
Education Workers Connect stated that Teachers are the pillars of nation-building process because they help to influence the next generation to become morally, socially and psychologically responsible citizens in our societies and by extension, the nation. Again, Teachers trigger visions, develop building blocks, and catalyze actions to build the world to come and therefore it is worrying to observe how in spite of all the invaluable roles that the teachers play as captured above, they seem to be left out in critical decision-making process regarding education.
