Several of the regional qualification contests in the various regions have been completed. The Eastern Region is the last region where the regional qualification is yet to be completed. There are several well-performing schools in the region which are seeking to qualify for the national championship this year.

A total of 21 schools participated today, Monday, June 1, 2021 in four separate contests with at least five schools in each contest. Four (4) schools emerged as winners in the various contests.

This means that a total of eight (8) schools has now qualified to participate in the Preliminary Stage of the 2021 NSMQ Competition.

Below are the four schools which have progressed to the next stage of the competition

a. Presby SHS, Suhum – 35 points

b. Abuakwa State College – 36 points

c. Mpraeso SHS – 53 points

d. Boso SHTS – 25 points

Presby SHS, Suhum did not lose hope after placing third at the end of Round 1 and trailing behind leaders New Juaben SHS by 6 points. They fought till the end to emerge victorious.

Abuakwa State College found an easy-win in its contest; leading the second-placed school, St. Dominic’s SHS by 25 points.

Mpraseo SHS delivered absolutely a marvelous performance in its contest by getting the highest points for the contest day and leading the 2nd placed school by 26 points.

Boso SHTS experienced a nervy win in what would be described as a close contest.

Some of the points obtained by schools were not very much encouraging comparing them to final scores of schools in other regions. That notwithstanding, congratulations to all four schools on progressing to the next stage of the competition and all the best.

There is a lot of work to do by contestants and coordinators of the qualified schools in preparing for the national championship in Accra.
