It was a tension packed day as the grand finale of the National Science and Maths Quiz came to a spectacular finish. It has been an interesting road to the finals as favorites like St. Augustine’s, Opoku Ware as well as underdogs like Tamale SHS and Chemu SHS came in their all. However, in the end only 3 schools qualified for the finals; Keta SHTS, Prempeh College and PRESEC, Legon.
The first round started with all three school answering brilliantly to questions and though they sounded difficult the contestants gave it their all with just a few points separating them by the end of the first round. The second round started with PRESEC beginning to give a gap to their slim lead. They managed to pull some convincing responses to questions that saw them take a clear lead of 5 points separating them and second placed Prempeh College. By end of Round 2 Keta was trailing with 13 points while Prempeh had 21 points with PRESEC leading with 26 points.
Round 3 started with the Problem of the day and the students were made to sweat in this round. In the Semi Finals, PRESEC had scored 0 in that round and they sought to make amends. Keta came out with 20, Prempeh with 31 with PRESEC leading with 33 points.
Prempeh came back strong in the Fourth round and by the end were leading with 47 points with PRESEC at 46 points and Keta sweating it out at 27points. From the 5th round it was Prempeh College who established their dominance and had the support of the Ashanti Region backing them to win. The boys from Kumerica stood their grounds and grounded a hard fought comeback win with 53 points.
For PRESEC, Legon it will be heartbreak as they missed out on a 7th title. For Keta they gave in their all while for Prempeh it will be a 5th title. Finally, they got a 5th to Glori5 God.
