Basic Schools to hold sporting activities amid Coronavirus?

The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo ordered that all school activities to be suspended in March, 2020 as a result of the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus. Academic activities have resumed since June 2020. However, the ban on sporting activities in schools is yet to be lifted.

News and information from some of the District Education Directorates in the Ashanti Region indicate that Heads of Basic Schools have been asked to inform their School Sports Coordinators about impending sports meeting.

The agenda of the said meeting includes Circuit Soccer Games. This raises the question of whether the Government of Ghana has lifted ban on sporting and Co-curricular activities or not.

Looking at how the Government of Ghana has been able to manage the coronavirus in our educational institutions, organising sports events would not pose any challenge.

Another item on the list is, there is an impending coaching course for school sports Coordinators. The course will aid teachers in acquiring new skills in coaching and talent identification.
