GES Trains ICT Teachers for the Implementation of the New GES ICT Policy

Ghana Education Service has scheduled training program for Information and Communication Technology Teachers in the Senior High Schools on Ticketing for Wi-Fi connectivity, as part of measures to promote digital literacy among teachers and students in the second cycle institutions, Government has installed Wi-fi internet connectivity in the seven hundred and twenty one Senior High Schools in the country. The installation of the high speed fibre optic WiFi internet access point in the Senior High Schools is to fulfill the New Ghana Education Service Information and Communication Technology Policy.

As part of the New GES ICT Policy, Teachers will be assisted by Government to own a laptop, Senior High School students will be allowed to bring smart phones to school without a SIM card, the students smart phones will be registered in the School ICT department to access the high speed WiFi internet in the school. Students smart phones on the school's Wi-fi network will be monitored by the ICT Teacher in charge of monitoring the school network. Students smart phones on the network will be able to access only educational websites, other websites will be blocked on the network.

Ghana Education Service has invited the ICT teachers in the Senior High Schools to be trained to manage and monitor the school Wi-Fi Connectivity. The training program is set to begin on Tuesday, 30th November, 2021. ICT teachers will be grouped into zones for the training workshop.The training will focus on the managing and monitoring of the Wi-fi network. The ICT teachers will be trained on ticketing for Wireless Fidelityconnectivity. Wi-fi ticketing platform will give the ICT teachers in charge of the network to generate a ticket for the use of the internet, this ticket will be in the form of code and time duration for the use of the internet in the school. The Wi-fi ticketing platform will prevent unwanted guest on the school network. Only users with the ticket will have access to the school internet connectivity.
