Residents of Guonuo in the Wa East district of the upper west region, have observed that teachers in their community are committed and willing to serve, but lack of electricity and adequate accommodation for such teachers are grave impediments to their commitment and performance. Mr. Abdulai Haris, noted that teachers need do research and prepare their lesson notes, before going into the classroom to teach.
According to Mr. Haris, the teacher needs lights to enable him/her do all these effectively which is not in existence in Guonuo. On teachers’ accommodation, Mr. Haris, argues that, it is shared responsibility on government and the community.
Mr. Ibrahim Yahaya, cited health facilities, potable water, electricity, and a host of others one cannot find in Guonuo community. According, to Mr. Ibrahim, any amenity that could make life worth living, apart from Formal Education, cannot be seen in Guonuo.
They are therefore calling on the Wa East District Assembly, Non-Governmental Organizations, and the government to come to their aid.
