Teaching is the specialized application of knowledge, skills and attributes designed to provide unique service to meet the educational needs of the individual and of society. The choice of learning activities whereby the goals of education are realized in the school is the responsibility of the teaching profession. The core of teaching consists of four basic values: dignity, truthfulness, fairness and responsibility and freedom.
Teachers stand up for their students to the administration. They advocate so that each student is able to receive a quality education where they are able to succeed. This is the number one reason why being a teacher is the most honorable profession.
Teaching is a noble profession. Teachers are selfless, always ready to go to any extent to help their students. The reward for the service is the happiness and satisfaction they get when their students achieve success.
Teachers were promised vehicle import duty exemption to help teachers acquired vehicles on their own, in 2004 president Kuffour indroduced the vehicle import duty for teachers, cars that were brought into the country by teachers were duty free. This policy was canceled in 2012. Some teachers abused the opportunity given to them to import vehicles for free.
In the build up to the 2020 election both NDC and the NPP flag bearers promised to restore the vehicle import duty exemption for teachers, after the election nothing has been said making it a failed promise. Politicians have been deceiving teachers when they need their votes, when they get power they forget about their promises to the teaching profession.
If politicians are to fulfill the numerous promises made to the teaching profession and educational sector, teaching will be one of the best profession in the country. Ministry of Education promised to partner with SSNIT and the teacher unions to provide affordable housing for teachers, which was captured in the Ministry of Education budgets eight years now, not single housing unit has been completed, teachers deserve better.
Teachers truly are the backbone of society. They are role models to children, offer guidance and dedication and give young people the power of education. Because of teachers, countries are able to further develop socially and economically.
The current cost of living and the four percent increment of teachers salary will worsen their economic conditions, Government should provide transportation subsidy program for teachers by collaborating with the metro mass transit. This will help ease the burden of teachers.
