The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has recently raised massive concerns after he boldly came out to finally break the silence over UTAG strikes brouhaha aside setting the records straight about the alarming issue.
Not long ago, the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) embarked on a very long strike action over conditions that they claimed involved unpaid arrears under the Akufo Addo administration as they intend to embark on another sit-down strike if their needs are not met by the end of this year after agreeing to go back to the classroom in March 2022.
With respect to this, Otumfuo whilst speaking at the special congregation at KNUST took the opportunity to address the alarming issue aside urging members of UTAG to do the needful which would enable the to government meet their respective needs aside from not causing more harm than good to students.
“I call on UTAG, and for that matter all other unions on campus and civil society at large, to be measured in their expectations, particularly at this time that the global economy is battling the deleterious effect of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war. I am not a student of economics but I know that resources are always limited and therefore we cannot have what we want all the time. The COVID-19 pandemic has already created a dent in the academic calendar and we do not want to see labor unrests deepening this dent”, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II emphatically revealed.
Do you think that UTAG does not have to seek proper financial working conditions due to the economic crisis the Akufo Addo is currently experiencing due to covid as revealed by Otumfuo even though most individuals claimed otherwise?
What are your thoughts after Otumfuo finally set the records straight over the UTAG strike brouhaha that has caused massive reactions online even though most individuals agreed otherwise?
