All You Need to Know About The 2021 WASSCE.

The West African Senior School Certificate Examination abbreviated as WASSCE was introduced in 2006 to replace the Senior School Certificate Examination.

The Examination is conducted and managed by West African Examination Council popularly known as WAEC. WAEC was Established in 1952. 

It is conducted for Anglophone countries in West Africa. They are Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and the Gambia. 

The current 2021 WASSCE candidates are the 15th batch since it's introduction.

The Ongoing WASSCE commenced on Monday, August 16, 2021 with Project Work for Visual Arts candidates.

The Exams theory duration is five (5) weeks for this year, meaning that the theory papers will start from Wednesday 1st September 2021 until October 8, 2021. 

The final papers to end this year's WASSCE are Physics and Ghanaian Languages.

According to the West African Examinations Council, a total of 446,321 prospective SHS 3 students representing 221,437 males and 234,884 females from 965 Senior High Schools are expected to sit for the examination this year.

Out of the 965 Senior High Schools (SHSs), 651 are public and 314 are private.

This year's WASSCE will be administered in 763 Examination centres across the length and breath of Ghana.

Cautions and Advise

The Head of National Office – WAEC, Mrs Wendy Addy-Lamptey in her address at a press conference advised the final year students to abide by the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the Senior High School examination.

“Let me advise all candidates to comply with the rules and regulations of the examination and avoid any form of malpractice that could lead to the cancellation of their results and being barred from taking WAEC exams,” she stated.

The WAEC official similarly appealed to supervisors and invigilators to refrain from taking their mobile phones to the examination hall during the administration of the final exams and be vigilant in carrying out their duties as expected.
