College Education

Rastafarian who was denied admission into Achimota school tops science and elective maths class.

Achimota school is a second cycle educational boarding school located at Achimota, Accra in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It was founded by sir Gordon Guggisberg in 1924 and formerly opened in 1927. It was the first mixed-gender school to be established in the Gold Coast. The motto of the school is "Ut Omnes Unum Sint" which means, "that they all may be one". The school has educated many Ghanaian leaders including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Edward Akuffo Addo, Jerry John Rawlings and John Evans Atta Mills all of whom are former Heads of state.

In the year 2020, after the BECE examination and school placement, the school refused to give admission to some students who wore dreadlocks, that is they were Rastafarians.

Tyrone Marguay, who happen to be one of the rastafarians is a triplet with two other sisters who all were dreadlocks. His siblings also faced the same humiliation in the placement of school.

Tyrone, after interference of various many voices both from organizations, political personalities and individuals in the country was allowed into the school upon the directive from the Attorney General's department.

This Rasta boy, Tyrone who was refused admission happen to have topped his class in Science and Elective Maths. This is a shock to the because it wasn't expected that after the humiliation, this boy was still able to beat his class in these subjects.

The headmistress has allegedly withhold the rest of the results. "We were waiting for the rest of the results. I asked him if the rest of the results are in, but he said no because they said the headmistress or somebody said no the rest of the results shouldn't be given to them anymore", father of Tyrone reveals. However the father shows fear that the rest of the results might be tempered with.
