The Ghana Police Service are investigating circumstances that led to a fire outbreak which razed down a student hostel at Nyinahin Senior High School in the Ashanti region. Reports following the disaster which happened on Saturday, September 9 and rendered scores of students without place to sleep indicated the fire was started by final year students who had just written their last paper but were aggrieved because invigilators were tough and did not allow them to send foreign materials into the exam hall. But as the police have launched investigations into the matter, there are indications that the initial reports that greeted the disaster and implicated the graduating students may just have been nothing but speculations. A police statement issued this afternoon said the force have established that as at the time the fire started, majority of the final year students upon completion of their WASSCE papers had parked out of the school and the remaining students had gone to a religious event. The statement added that further Investigations are being conducted to determine the actual cause of the inferno and should it prove that the fire was started by arsonists, the police will go after them and ensure they are brought to book.
